Female STANDers don't respect SNSD's image

Before you continue your reading, I strongly suggest that you take your time to read queenbee’s editorial (HERE) and izzybellboo’s article (HERE) to give you an insight of my article.

Now, I assumed that you have read and understood them well.

The majority of STAND is made up of the female gender, and because of this, we have been labeled as “a bunch of jealous fan girls who can’t accept the fact that SNSD is the best girl group ever and they are close to DBSK / Super Junior”. Many of us are fans of boy groups, but we too love other girl groups. Okay girls, I need you to be honest, get rid of your anti – fanning spirit and biasness for a while, think, and ask yourself …

WHAT IS IT ABOUT SNSD THAT YOU ARE JEALOUS OF

I’m going to answer for myself here and I’d say, nothing. SNSD is an average girl group at all aspects, be it at talents, looks and charm. Before becoming an anti I tried to watch some of their live performances and none of them astonished me. Their looks are plain and average (some are even anorexic). I think that BEG’s Narsha, After School’s Kahi and Nana, KARA’s Park Gyuri and Nicole, Lina The Grace, T-Ara’s Eunjung and Zhang Liyin are absolutely gorgeous. But this is not a reason for me to anti them. In fact, I admire them. Jealous because SNSD is close to Super Junior? No. I’m rational enough to understand that the members of both groups came from the same company and they had probably spent half of their lives training together. It’s normal for them to be close to each other like a family.

SONES : YOU GIRLS DON’T RESPECT YOU ELDERS

This statement probably came out because most of us are younger than the members of SNSD. But how can you respect some older girls (unnies), who are supposed to be your role model and idol if they are like this:

Yes, some other girl groups have shown sexy images. But don't you find it uncanny that the girl group named Girls' Generation displaying such an image? SNSD's image that's being marketed to us is rather disgusting. To put it simply, their image is "I'm innocent but feel free to take a peek when I flash my panties".

Is it actually wrong for us girls to not respect them as a group? When SNSD debuted with Into The New World,they clearly showed that they are here to represent us,the young girls of this generation and become our role models.At that time, their image was quite promising, Girls' Generation singing a song about women empowerment. But behind all that, some people can't help but notice the mini skirts and high leg kicking that they wore and did in the MV. Women empowerment and degradation at the same time?



I'm not going to talk about their song, "Girls' Generation" as queenbee has already mentioned it in her editorial.Even so, it will forever be on my list of the most disturbing songs that I've came across of.

A quote from a Sone that debated with me a while ago. We were talking about how SNSD does not represent girls in a good way and better yet, girl power:

First of all,let's define 'girl power'. In 2001, the Oxford English Dictionary added the term 'girl power' defining this phrase as:

Power exercised by girls; a self-reliant attitude among girls and young women manifested in ambition, assertiveness, and individualism.

As SNSD made their progress in the industry, we can clearly see that they were getting further away from the title that they are supposed to live up to.Just search up for the lyrics of their 'hit' songs like Gee, Genie and Oh!.What do you get? Songs about young girls who are helplessly in love, telling her man that she'll grant his wishes and about girls who try to get their oppas' attention by putting on make up and doing their hair. Where's the girl power??

Only recently, they came back with Run Devil Run. Personally, I think that the lyrics are quite powerful, and it showed some 'girl power'. Only, what's up with the transparent black outfit??



Once again,women empowerment and degradation at the same time.

We respect other female idols or artists for their image is honest and nowhere near deceiving.Examples ; Lee Hyori, CSJH The Grace, and After School all came out with a clearly 'sexy and mature' image. They did dress up provocatively sometimes but the sexy clothing had never been accompanied by 'cute and innocent' song lyrics and behavior.

We could blame SME for marketing SNSD with such image. But why is it that the girls seemed to enjoy being advertised that way? And to add on this, SNSD's behavior is also part of their image. We all know how they have been. Rude,unprofessional and slightly bitchy. Is that how our role models should behave?

Some girls chose to idolize SNSD, and we respect their decision. But why is it so hard for Sones, especially the male ones to respect our decision to protest SNSD? Is it because they don't understand what we feel about SNSD's image? I don't know.

Above all, SME,SNSD and Sones need to realize that not everyone can be 'captivated' by SNSD's 'charming innocent image'. We female STAND members find that their image very disturbing and never suitable to represent the young girls of this generation. Maybe the only way for us to at least respect them as a group is if they change their name as to not degrade us with their deceiving image.

This is exactly what sones (or more specifically female sones) need to realize. They are blinded by the catchy tune and 'unique' image.

Absolutely nothing. their appearance? 'talent'? the relation to other SME artists? I'm sure there are various antis who dislike them for those reasons, but i think the majority of STANDers truly dislike them for the right reasons. I'll admit, i used to be annoyed, not jealous of the close relationships with other artists, but that didn't makes me anti them. Fx and super junior are close, yet i don't anti them, although im not a fan
In regards to appearance, Goo Hara has had plastic surgery yet i like her, and i think she's pretty.

I show respect to those that earn respect. Of course i respect people older then me, but what has SNSD done to make me respect them? Some Sones should really speak for themselves, as some Sones younger then STANDers disrespect us. It's not alright to for us not to show respect for SNSD, but we don't deserve that respect in return by younger Sones? How about the respect for STANDing up for what's right?

What Sones don't seem to understand is the fact that they doesn't deserve our respect. SNSD are capable of showing us what true girl power is, through their songs and changing the way they dress, plus by beating out numerous male groups. Girl Power indeed. It's so easy for them to earn our respect.
I think this is what disappointments us the most, they are so capable yet instead take the easy way out by showing their midriff, legs, ass, showing provocative dace routines, and not taking responsibility for their actions and the actions of their fans.

Are Sones so dense that they can't see all of this? Truly a disgrace to Kpop.

Speaking for myself, I have never for one minute been jealous of snsd. Being jealous of someone implies that they have something you want for yourself. I don't find snsd attractive or sexy. There are a lot of beautiful women in S. Korea, many of them in girl groups, it just so happens none of them is in snsd, so if I am not jealous of women I think are truly beautiful, why would I be jealous of snsd when none of them are beautiful, a couple are pretty but none beautiful.

As for them being close to boybands, I like just about all the kpop boybands but am a dedicated fan of SS501, but you have to be realistic in your fandom enough to not hate on females they come in contact with. Entertainers are going to be around other entertainers. Hot guys are going to be around girls. As for snsd, since they are shoved into every program and are constantly put into "scandal" relationships, of course they will be around the boy bands and be close to some. The whole "jealous fangirl" argument falls on its face when you consider that snsd anti-fan females are fans of many bands, SuJu, DBSK, Big Bang, SS501, 2PM, SHINEE. These various bands are all in companies or close to some Girl Band or other. If you are a fan of sm ent. boybands, then you should also hate Boa, f(x) because they are in the same company and get close to the boys, but if you don't hate on all females who may be close to your particular band, the jealous fangirl argument falls on its ass. I am a huge SS501 fan (we are in crisis now, but that's another subject) but I love Kara, but since I'm a jealous fangirl, shouldn't I dislike Kara, too. That argument is stupid, I feel pity for the guys that have to be around snsd all the time, certainly not jealousy towards snsd, that's ridiculous.

As for disrespecting the "unnies", I am older than every member of snsd, so you can't pin that one on me. But for sones to even use the "disrespect" argument is ludicrous. Sones are the most disrespectful, foul mouthed ignorant group of fans in the history of the world. Do sones respect anyone of any age that has the slightest negative opinion of snsd? NO!!!!! Yes, you should respect your elders. But respect is something you earn, it is not automatic. snsd are not respectful to their elders, they do not perform in a respectful way, they are not proper role models for young girls, THEY HAVE NOT EARNED ANY RESPECT. I find it disrespectful for a bunch of horny old men to be lusting after a bunch of young girls, but sones and snsd don't have a problem with that. snsd is degrading the image of women and young girls, so who wants to respect the "girls" who are disrespecting all females by being "glorified bimbettes".

My dislike for snsd from a feminist standpoint is really secondary to the main reason I dislike them and its basically that they are untalented and are degrading the image of kpop artists male and female. Their inexplicable popularity makes all kpop artists look like no talent clowns from an international standpoint.

I find it amazing that any rational female of any age could be a fan of snsd, I liken it to being a fan of hookers or porn stars and I would respect hookers or porn stars before I would respect snsd, at least they are whoring for money and not for fame.

I will start by that response from that fan: Proofs that SNSD represents girls' generation of the 21st century? well actually she/he just stated their awards and how they beat other group especially boy groups..and like you said that's not girl power!

I was really thinking hard if there's something about them that I'm jealous of but there's really nothing. I can't think of anything. They all have quite bearable looks to look at,voices to listen to and dances that just make my head shakes all the time but that's all there is to them..There's nothing more. I think we're women that's why to say something against our own gender is consider jealousy. That's like a reflex.

But let me share with you what are those things that make me jealous of other girl idols:
THE DANCES:
Park Ga Hee(After School):she's very talented,she can dance any kind of dance,and she has like the best female abs I've seen among the idols, and that what makes me jealous..
Minzy/Minji(2NE1): she's undoubtedly very flexible and good at dancing..she's like a human rubber band..and her moves are very smooth
Sun Ye(Wonder Girls): whenever I watch their live performances,she's like always the first that I look at..

Voices:
Park Bom(2NE1): very destinctive voice and like no other
Yenny(Wonder Girls): aside from her looks she has a very good voice too,and she speaks english..(smile)well all the other girls can too but anyway..
Ga Hee and Bekah(After School)and CL(2NE1),rapping:like WOW!
BOA: she's multi-lingual and multi-talented artist,and the fact the reached international is what I really like
Ga Yoon(4Minute):when I first heard her sing I was like wow!

BODIES:
AFTER SCHOOL: and I know you guys agree with me too..
LEE HYO RI: she's one hell of a sexy lady,she's hot

Now I'll talk about SNSD,dances? well,their dance moves became popular but that don't mean they're the best at dancing. I will agree for once that they are synchronized but I think that's because they're 9,and I think the more people dancing with the same moves the more the dancing looks good. Because sometimes I think when a group has fewer members,the dance moves are choreographed most likely to emphasized each member's part on the performance. And the audience don't really wait for synchronization. But if there are a lot of members in a group then I think it's just natural for people to expect that they synchronize..SO I don't really envy them for this.

Their voices,I've said this before to one of their fans that I think the reason why people don't really appreciate their singing ability is because each one of them only get 1 or 2 lines to sing and that's not really enough for people to say immediately "Oh,she sings really well"(I'm being nice then)..In some cases,you can also tell from just a line if the person singing really have a good voice. I will categorize this under those singers that give me goosebumps when they start singing even the first note of the song. And among SNSD,I can't really say that any of them give me that impression,Tae Yeon? Nah!!I'd prefer BOM's.And I'd really go to voice lesson to have that kind of asset.

Their bodies: Like hello? In the first place they are advertised and adored by their "most loving fans" because of their legs..and their dorkiness(which for me is their term for serious self-issues).Some of them are really long-legged but that's not really something to be proud of.

And as simple as I don't really see SNSD as the right idols to look up to not to mention their songs that don't really appeal to me. As far as I can see,it's really not fair for other artists to be compared to them. They might be the girl group on top of all kpop charts,advertisements,album sales but these don't mean that they are "they are the best",fans always say this line which really pisses me off sometimes,well they can't help it,they're fans..I get that..

When I look at it,other artists (compared to SNSD) are what I can call TALENTED AND THE REAL MANIFESTATION OF GIRLS'GENERATION OF TODAY..













If I look at these girls' outfits and styles,I see something that's kind of common. Something I can't see when I look at SNSD..

I absolutely love this article and absolutely loved what everyone had to say about it. Now I need to rant about this...

What am I jealous of??
There's nothing I can say I'm jealous of. Actually I admire people who I am jealous of...they're more like idols. And another thing. I HATE WHEN SONES TARGET ME SAYING I'M A BUTT HURT ELF WHO'S JEALOUS CAUSE THEY GET TO HANG AROUND SUJU! Let me tell you the truth here. I like Suju's music. I just don't bother to like them. I'm neutral on them and I will always be. I never get jealous when I see Suju with SNSD.

RESPECT
How can I respect them when they don't even know what that word means? How can I respect the people who represent my generation as being "easy, slutty" girls? It's fairly impossible for me to get how that works.

COMPARING TO OTHER BANDS
Why do sones tell me all the time, "stop comparing them to other bands!!"

They say, "Oh SNSD is much better than this." (when watching Davichi, T-Ara, & Seeya's Wonder Woman)
I say, "Really power vocals are less in power than weak vocals that are always sick. I think Davichi can circles around SNSD. And Seeya's Boram is much cuter than Taeyeon. And that Hyomin doesn't have a nasally voice like Jessica. So keep comparing, and I'll compare back"
They say, "Stop comparing!!"

Why does everyone say, "They're the best live!!!!!!"
When you listen to Star Star Star...Taeyeon is lip syncing and Yuri too! Yoona was off key even though all she did was talk. The rest sounded like CRAP!

AMEN TO THIS ARTICLE. Seriously, I'm tired of SONEs and their habit of labeling STAND with the word jealous. Don' they realize that that isn't that case and jealousy is something we don't even associate with ourselves?

WHAT AM I JEALOUS OF? Absolutely and positively nothing when it comes to SNSD. If I have to be jealous of someone, I'd say Kahi of AS because she just screams confidence and, of course, girl power. Because they are rude, talentless and classless girls, I don't really see the point on why I should be jealous or why I should even give them a chance to be my role models. The moment they did their high kicks on their debut performance, they were automatically blacklisted in my book. Who the hell represents girls' generation by flashing their panties? Some way to show dignity.

RESPECT: I'm nearly 20 and that makes me either older than some of them, the same age or younger by a couple of months. But either way, I don't see why I should respect anyone who degrades my femininity by doing their stunts. I'm into fanservice and all, but the artists whose fanservices I fawn over don't represent my generation. In fact, they're years older than me so they can get away with the stunts they pull on stage. But SNSD is playing around with my gender and making girls seem like they're the kind to get people's attention by their sexuality. PUHLEASE. FYI, time's have change and a majority of girls don't like being seen as teases or pin ups.

Well actually, I have everything that SNSD don't have; I'm respected, well-behaved, pretty, clever, multi-talented and know how to act in public. I might be a desperate fanatic of Shim Changmin, but I'm not jealous of SNSD however I'm sad for the fact that Changmin and DBSK had to suffer because they didn't want to have rumors with SNSD (more info HERE). Since I'm in love with Changmin I hate anyone who make him sad, but still that's just a secondary reason of why I hate SNSD.

I hate SONEs for the fact that they judge us, Antis, without knowing a single bit about us, just going everywhere saying that we are rude jealous ugly bitches and they really stress on the UGLY thing. Since when looks matters and I think that Antis are preetier than SONEs themselves. At least we are well-behaved and that what makes the good points in our looks to shine.

SWeriously, I myself don't want SONEs to turn into antis because simply most of them are disgusting.

To say the truth, most girls these days are slutty and bitchy, but there are still girls like us, who don't use their sex-appeal to seduce guys. however, girls like us are considered nerds, geeks, tomboys, loners, or whatever since we don't try to leech of guys. When i talk about real talented and strong woman i'd say CL, i love her so much!!! she has such a strong personality and really talented... Also I like Ai from Morning Musume the most, She has a great voice and know what she has to do as Leader of Hello!Project and Morning Musume and she is really cute but at the same time absoluty beautiful =D and Iida Kaori ex-MoMusu, she was once leader when MM was with like 16 members =3 i respect her for that ^^

You know what? I am pretty jealous of them. Why? Because they're famous and adored and all they had to do for it was flash their panties and giggle on top of that they have a fanatical army ready to defend their every indiscretion. All those other reasons for being jealous are complete bull. I'm a huge SJ/DBSK fan but I'm also a huge Zhang LiYin fan and lord knows how much both groups like her (more than they like SNSD). I actually like all the cute LiYin shippiness because I think she's classy, beautiful and most of all, talented and therefore, on their level of awesomeness and therefore a suitable match.

what have I to be jealous of those 9?
that's a really really good question......Nothing really comes to mind that is...exceptional about them. Their songs are catchy, but I credit the songwriters for that. Dancing, appearance, and vocals are palatable at best. Though, as I have to keep saying to my sone friend, "they're ok. they can't sing live AT ALL though"
and btw..regarding the "legginess" of these girls...my friend told me that they're about avg height (5'3" and thereabouts) they just wear high heels and short shorts.

Respect:
I do respect them. Just to a point. I have a "respect system" that gives out a certain amount of respect based on age and profession. They're singers that made it through an audition and training period. I get it. But I also minus "respectability" when they do things that cause me to lose respect for them. In SNSD's case, it's acting innocent while showing the camera panty shots..it's like a bad fanservice manga.....
I have a quote in my room that says "Respect comes to those who give it". If SNSD and Sones showed that they are respectful of others, then I'd have no problem respecting them more...

talentwise:
Since they keep calling us "jealous fangirls" I'll stick to naming my favorite female artists
Top singer: Younha and Angela Aki. These two have very differnt styles, but the sheer strength and range of their voice comes out in each song they sing.
Top Dancer: with no doubt, it's Minzy. She has total control over her body and insane flexibility
Top body: Amber. In addition to her cool andryogynous image, she has well toned abs, arms, and legs. And her smile is dazzling.
Top personality: BoA. She's bee around the music industry for 10 years now! She's practically a diva in the asian pop industry. And yet, she still remains humble and grateful for everything.
Top Effort: Wonder Girls. They put 1000% into everything they do. nuff said.
Top Girl power representatives: F(x). LaChata started them off with a strong image. Chu was more cutesy, but showed off their youthfulness tastefully. And NU ABO was about being different but still being confident in who they are.

each of these girls have aspects that I would do anything to attain even one. These are the types of people I'd be jealous of.

I think SNSD is less of a "we are the rolemodels of this generation" and more of "we are a reflection of this generation" To be honest, even if they aren't sones or haven't even heard of snsd, I see people that act with a "cute but sexy" image and dress with short shorts and midriffs and the like....>shudders<

I don't think that 'Run Devil Run' has (little if any) Female Empowerment.
How does revenge and kicking a boy's as* show female independence? This song in itself focuses more on the MAN and not the wronged woman.

The song that best suits the theme that SNSD was TRYING to go for is "No Playboy" by Nine Muses. Many SONEs have commented that the theme between the two songs are the same. WRONG.

Words of Female Independence come in lines like:
"There are other things that make my head hurt besides you. I'm busy trying to do my own thing well"

"Don't Worry because Noona says she's kinda busy and just go play somewhere else"

Where in RDR can you find lines somewhat along the lines of that?

No Playboy has the theme of "I don't need you to be happy. I have a life to get on with"

RDR has a theme of "I need to kick your as* to be happy and I won't be until you're gone"

I thought that using fighting as a way to stop your problems ended when you left Elementary School

My bad, I searched for the translations and I end up reading the one that's not so accurate, which led to that mistake. But on the other hand, the lyrics do have a tiny bit of girl power, you know the self-reliant attitude. I really don't know how to say it but that's how I think it is. Thanks for pointing that out.

LOL SNSD represent girls power just cuz they win award? I don't get it...girls' power is about being strong women, NOT to fall into the sterotype that women are meant to be seen not heard, women are eyecandy, or that women are suppose to act cutesy like 5 yrs old. That's all SNSD have done. How many Sones would stop being their fans or at least not so obsessive with them if they're ugly but can sing like Mariah Carey? They need to ask themselves that question.

Also in 2008 LSM said so in a press conference that SNSD image is meant to target middle age men. But why the name Girls' Generation?

if we ARE indeed a bunch of fat/ugly/short/jealous girls, STAND wouldn't even exist. Why? We would just save space and time by making Anti Girl-Groups Forum instead and SNSD will just get maybe a thread because we will be too busy hating on other girl groups as well like wonder girls for collaborating with bigbang, sunmi for sitting on top's lap, IU because she kissed taeyang, csjh lina because jaejoong touched her, sohee because heechul adores her etc. Did Insanes trade their brains for SNSD photobooks full of porn pics?

i strongly agree on this one. so what if we don't respect them?

do they even needed to be respected?
with portraying things such as that, i don't even think the group name girl's generation should be on them.

haha jealous? pfft no way. I am in love with 2NE1 and they are super close to Big Bang. Sure I may be a tad jealous they that close, but it's no reason to anti against them.
SNSD has nothing I am jealous about but is everything I think a girl group should NOT do. As for being a role model for girls, wouldn't 2NE1 or 4Minute be better? At least their songs are strong and encourage women to have courage and self-esteem.
hahaha I'd love to see SNSD try to beat a DBSK (all members working together) album. I personally applaud any band that can, 'cause well... :) DBSK is my number 1~!

like the other girl groups have what SNSD also has... voice? there's CSJH or Davichi or SeeYa, dance? there's After School, Rainbow, idol-image? there's Kara, Wonder Girls, so there's nothing unique among SNSD.. they're just like a regular girl group...

I'm really getting irritated with SONES saying us STANDS are jealous. Their name is "Girl's Generation"... so aren't they supposed to show some empowerment of today's girls? But no, all they do is wear super short skirts, dance around with lollipops trying to be cute all the time.... I, myself as a girl, don't wanna be stereotyped like the girls that they represent. Also, I personally think they're not talented that when it comes to vocals. There are members that actually are good singers (Taeyeon) but as a group, SNSD isn't that good. So ya to sum it up, SNSD is a group that isn't that good of singers, their cloths and dances are kinda slutty, and their personalities are kinda fake.
